Great Athletes who played Soccer
I’m definitely a good player – a defensive or attacking midfielder
— Usain Bolt – Track and Field (Worlds Fastest Man)
I played soccer before football, and I was good. That’s where I get my quick feet — my feet are unbelievable. When I got to high school [Miami Beach High], I had to choose between the sports because they were in the same season. I chose football because I saw more opportunity, but it broke my heart. I still follow soccer; I watched every minute I could of the World Cup. I like to think I play football like Ronaldinho, with the trick moves and the anticipation. When he plays soccer, he looks completely different from everybody else. I try to do that too.
— Chad Ochocinco – Football (NFL – Cincinnati Bengals)
Soccer is a very popular sport in Russia. Soccer can be played as a simple recreation. Any piece of spare ground and any type of round ball is good enough for a kick-about. I loved the game of Soccer since I was introduced to it at 7 years old. I had so very much fun that time, it still remains in my heart today, as one of my fondest memories.
— Pavel Datsyuk – Hockey (NHL – Detroit Red Wings)
…I like playing soccer too much…
— Steve Nash – Basketball (NBA – Pheonix Suns)
…I played against my friend who is also a tennis player now. We played in the finals against each other two years. Once I lost in the penalty shootout, but I scored mine. He scored his, too, but we ended up losing. In the following year, we crushed them in the finals…
— Roger Federer – Tennis (2010 Atp Rank: 2)
When I was young I was playing soccer and tennis and little by little I had dedicated myself more and more to tennis and finally I stayed with tennis.
— Juan Carlos Ferrero – Tennis (2010 Atp Rank: 29)
